NSW Local Council Elections 2021

Did you know in NSW only 4% of NSW councillors are under 30, compared to 16% of the State's population? Despite what the statistics show, we believe that you are not too young to run! And we want to help young people get there.

We are supporting young candidates with training, mentorship and skills development to run a powerful campaign that gets them elected!

Our Program

Not Too Young To: Get Elected!

Our six week 'Get Elected' program supports you with the knowledge, courage and resources to run this Local Council Election in NSW. Over the six weeks you'll hear from guest speakers that are leading campaigns for politicians across the country, past candidates that have run in Victoria and WA, and other young people that are standing alongside you. It will be practical, collaborative and fun.

Weekly zoom sessions

  • Every Wednesday

  • 5:00PM - 6:30PM

  • From October 20 - November 27

Session 2: Planning your campaign (October 27)

Session 3: Impactful messaging to win (November 3)

Our speakers help you understand political messaging and teach you how to craft messages that will cut through across all platforms - with a particular focus on digital campaigning and execution.

Session 4: Executing a message (November 10)

Our speakers will guide you through the process of making your message reach the right people and help you answer questions like flyers or sponsored ads? How much should you spend? Can you door knock in today's climate?

Our speakers will help you with this last push to the finish line! They'll help you with questions like how should I spend my time in my last week? What is the best use of my time? What did alumni do in the last stretch?

Session 6: Wrap up party (November 27)

Save the date because we'll be planning something special for you! The end of a campaign is a chance to come back and reflect, solidify our new friendships, and hopefully over some bevvies in person!

Candidate Stories

Jack Whitney: The importance of representation

“Representation matters. Put your hand up. Run for something. Throw your hat in the ring. As a generation that grew up with the internet and social media, we have at all times been part of something bigger than ourselves, but we at times lacked the deep and genuine connection of knowing our neighbour and community.”
